The Difference We Make
The Selby Womblers are a dedicated community group of volunteers who work tirelessly to improve the environment in and around Selby through regular litter picking activities. Our main activity is organising and carrying out litter picks in various locations, including parks, streets, and green spaces and targeting areas identified as needing attention or requested by the community.

We also work to raise awareness about the impact of littering through community engagement and educational initiatives, promoting responsible waste disposal and encouraging others to join our efforts.

We help the community because a cleaner Selby is a more attractive and enjoyable place to live, work, and visit. The Selby Wombler's efforts enhance the aesthetic appeal of the town, creating a more pleasant environment for everyone. By reducing litter, we also help to prevent the associated problems of vermin, unpleasant odours, and the
potential for litter to attract further fly-tipping.

The environment is also helped as removing litter has a significant positive impact. It prevents pollution of waterways and green spaces, protecting wildlife and ecosystems. It also reduces the risk of litter breaking down into microplastics, which can have long-term detrimental effects on the environment and potentially enter the food chain. By actively cleaning up litter, the Selby Womblers are contributing to a healthier and more sustainable environment for present and future generations.
